Happy New Year! You know, 2018 has flown by. It seems like just yesterday it was January. God has grown me a lot this year and I feel like I’ve gotten some amazing opportunities. From going to Texas on a missions trip with my church to being able to go to Williamsburg with my family for a fun vacation. I started driving this year. Managed to sprain my ankle (Again.)🙃😉 and turned 16.
When we went to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving in November, We went up a day early so we could do some cleaning out of my Grandmothers house. She moved to a nursing home. Grandma is an amazing example of a Godly woman – She is so content and loves everyone unconditionally. She and Grandpa both lived during the great depression which meant they kept a lot of things and didn’t throw away. The area where she lived had flooded so a lot of stuff was moldy and we threw it in the fire. It was so strange watching things burn, especially the books. All the things they had kept from the past were now being thrown into the fire because they had become just that – nothing more than things. Paul talks about everything he used to count as gain being counted as loss for the sake of Christ. In the end all the possessions you own are just things. They can’t go into eternity with you and they can’t get you salvation.
Watching everything burn caused me to think of the human life. It passes so quickly. We are a mist that appears for a little while then vanishes (James 4:14). Try spraying water out of a bottle and seeing how long that lasts. A few seconds at most. The Bible compares the mist to our life on this earth. That made me think of a couple of things. First, how incredible is it that God wants us to come close to Him? I mean, He sent Christ to die on the cross to rescue us from condemnation.
Second, if our life on this earth is really that short, we ought to spend it giving time back to the One who gave it to us. People’s lives are short and at the end they either go to heaven or hell. We shouldn’t waste our life on trifles, but instead give breath back to the One who gave it to us in the first place.
Anyway, Happy New Year! 😁
